Industrial pipelines are widely used in power generation, petrochemical processing, manufacturing and infrastructure. However, their internal condition is often difficult to assess. Long distances, elbows, vertical sections and limited access points can prevent inspectors from reaching important areas with conventional equipment.
To address these challenges, Beijing AIWINGS Technology Co., Ltd. has introduced ApexScope Bot, a modular robotic platform for remote pipeline inspection. The system combines a mobile robot, cameras, lighting, cable management and a portable operator console, enabling inspection teams to view and record internal pipeline conditions from a safe operating position.
ApexScope Bot uses a multi-section articulated structure. Flexible connections allow the robot body to adjust as it travels through changes in direction, while wheel assemblies positioned around the platform help maintain contact with the pipe wall. This configuration is intended to provide stable movement and imaging in pipeline routes that may be difficult for a rigid inspection carriage.
The system’s modular design allows functional sections to be selected according to the application. Camera, lighting, mobility and task-specific modules can be configured after reviewing the pipe layout, entry conditions and inspection objective. This makes the platform suitable for customers whose projects involve different pipeline geometries rather than one fixed inspection route.
Integrated cameras and illumination provide a live view of the internal pipe surface. Operators can use the image to observe visible conditions such as corrosion, deposits, foreign objects, surface damage and joint conditions. Images and video can be retained for later review, supporting maintenance communication and the creation of a traceable inspection record.
ApexScope Bot is operated from a portable control station. The operator can monitor the video feed, guide the robot and record relevant information without entering the pipeline. A managed tether carries power and communication while maintaining a physical connection to the robot during deployment and retrieval.
Potential applications include selected pipelines in energy facilities, petrochemical plants, industrial manufacturing, utilities and research environments. Actual suitability depends on pipe diameter, route, material, internal condition, temperature, atmosphere and site safety requirements.
